As you may have noticed, things are looking a little different around here! After a good six months in the making, I finally got my butt into gear and got our new website design launched.
Do you like our new blog design?
There’s a lot of work that goes into a new design… you have to choose a theme, liaise with other people working on the project, like designers (thanks Kristin!) and tech (thanks Chris!) to get it sorted.
There’s tweaking, back and forthing, and you can almost guarantee that it will launch later than your planned date.
New direction for Double-Barrelled Travel
One thing we decided with the re-launch of the site is that we want to offer more value for you, our reader.
Often when we’re on the road, people want to know how the hell we manage to travel full time and make money while we do it. Often they want to be able to do it too, but they have no idea where to begin.
This is where our new website comes in. While still offering travel tips and inspiration, we hope to also inspire other 9 to 5 office workers who are sick of their jobs to quit them and take their work life on the road.
What if you don’t want to spend your life living out of a suitcase?
No worries at all, we still have a lot of content for you! We’ve hopefully made it easier for you to access it now though, as you can click on the country you want to visit on the map at the bottom of the home page and link to all the relevant posts.
Feedback we received from you guys told us that our website wasn’t easy enough to navigate, so we really hope we’ve fixed those problems for you.
Funding our travels
As we come into our 19th month on the road, we’ve made some improvements to aspects of our business. I wish we could say we were rolling in the cash, and although this isn’t true, we are at least managing to save money each month.
Who knows what we’re saving towards – could be a house, could be a baby, although if there’s one thing we know right now is that we’re not very conventional, so we’ll see what we eventually spend our money on!
All we know is that we don’t like living hand to mouth, and if that’s one misconception people might have about our travelling lifestyle is that we do live from paycheck to paycheck.
Cheaper to travel
We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again – the reality is that it’s cheaper for us to travel the world than to live in Australia.
This is just one of the many factors driving us to keep exploring places we haven’t been. Because if we can see the world and save some cash at the same time, surely it’s a good option?
People often think that travel is out of their reach because it’s unaffordable. If there’s one thing we’ve learnt over the years is that that is complete bollocks.
And so we hope that our new website will prove this – that it is possible to see the world on a limited budget, and even save some money while you do it – and inspire people like yourselves to book that plane ticket.
Big thanks also to our fab tech guy, Chris from The Aussie Nomad.
So without further ado – what do you think of our new website?
If you have time, we’d love it if you could please give us some feedback in the comments below!
